Discover Videopoker History and Where it All Started

Videopoker history is something that is widely available on the net and it is absolutely free. Thus, there are plenty of opportunities for you to learn about this exciting game at your convenience, if this is something that appeals.

The history of the videopoker game is very rich and fascinating.  Enthusiasts of this game shouldn't find that surprising.  Likewise, they also shouldn't be surprised to learn that while its past is interesting, it isn't a very old game, especially not compared to some of the other major casino game classics.

Videopoker was invented in the 1970's by Si Redd.  Redd was working as a distributor for Bally at the time and played an important role in a number of the innovations made to slot machines.  Seeing how popular slots were, and with computer technology evolving and becoming more present, Redd pitched the idea of Video Poker to the Bally executives.

The game would be an electronic version of draw poker and have a similar feel to slots, but follow the basic hand rules of poker.  The executives were not wild about the idea and had no intention of introducing a completely new style of game to players when slots were already so successful.

Redd wasn't put off from his idea, however. He took the patent for the game and eventually made a deal with the Fortune Coin Company in Reno to create his own company called Sircoma.  His company mass produced his video poker machines, and by 1981, the new game was a hit at casinos.

The initial game was draw poker, with two pairs being the lowest possible hand resulting in a win. These first machines were nothing like the ones found in current land based gambling establishments, but as years passed, technology improved and so did the game.

In fact, it wasn't just video-poker that evolved, but also slots, as well. The invention of the electronic version of poker brought about a whole new change for slot machines. Video slots were born from the success of videpopoker.

As time passed, videopoker history continued to blossom and several variants of the game began to sprout up at various gambling destinations.  As it stands now, there are literally hundreds of variations of the game.  Many of the popular variants include: Jacks or Better, Aces and Faces, Deuces Wild, Bonus Poker, and many, many others.

Today, there are many different ways you can experience this fast-paced and exciting casino entertainment. On the internet it is available for free and can also be enjoyed by players making real money bets.  Its popularity both online and offline remains strong.

Easily find and play your favorite videopoker game variants at thousands of virtual casinos on the web.
