UK Woman Sentenced for Gambling Theft

A woman has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for stealing approximately GBP74,000 to fund her online gambling addiction.

A woman from the UK town of Wall Heath has been jailed for stealing around GBP74,000 from two employers over a period of eighteen months.

Michelle Oliver, 44, was found guilty of taking the cash and spending it on online gambling.

The theft came to light when British customs officers questioned her employer about an outstanding tax payment of GBP16,000, which Ms Oliver should have ensured was paid by the company.

Further investigation then showed that Ms Oliver, who is described as being previously “of good character”, had spent all the stolen money on online gambling.

In fact, she had no significant assets and lived a frugal lifestyle. This week, she started a 13 month jail term.
